Beauty is Achieved Using Math

During my time in training as a master aesthetic nurse injector I came across many scientific peer-reviewed journal articles about a mathematical term called the “Golden Ratio”. I had never heard about this before, and it completely changed my perspective on the whole concept of beauty. The word quickly transformed into an attainable, actual entity with an exact method to achieve it, rather than something that is solely a matter of opinion from the age-old saying, “beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” After I learned what it was and how to apply it, I now use it to create the injection treatment plan for my patients and fitness program template for my clients.

So what is the Golden Ratio? According to google, it is a mathematical ratio you can find almost anywhere: nature, architecture, painting, music, etc. When specifically applied, it creates an organic, balanced, and aesthetically pleasing composition. It was discovered by Phidias (500 BC – 432 BC), a Greek sculptor and mathematician. The golden ratio explains why the eye finds certain things more attractive and beautiful compared to others, such as the feminine hourglass figure, specific face shapes, flowers, and even architecture. Specifically, you can find the Golden Ratio when you divide a line into two parts and the longer part (a) divided by the smaller part (b) is equal to the sum of (a) + (b) divided by (a), which both equal 1.618.

In terms of aesthetic injections and fitness program design, the Golden Ratio can be used as a guide to decide which areas of the face need more volume and contour, and which muscles in the body need growth and shape, relative to the others. While individual bone structure does play a part, it is entirely possible to volumize certain areas which will make other areas appear smaller. For example, if you have an apple shaped body, your fitness program should be tailored towards shaping the shoulders wider, strengthening the transverse abdominis to pull the waist inward, and enlarging the glutes so the body appears more X-framed, or hour-glass shaped.

In terms of facial structure and creating beauty using the Golden Ratio, your aesthetic treatment plan can be tailored to restore youthfulness and fullness to achieve the ideal shape. For example, using dermal filler to restore volume to the lateral cheeks and botox in the masseters to slim a wide jaw line will give more of a feminine heart-shaped face. For men who want a chiseled jaw-line and a smooth forehead and eye area, using dermal filler along the mandible and botox in the upper face will turn back the hands of time without anybody realizing you had anything done.

Realize you have the ability to create a change in your shape using the Golden Ratio that can result in a more aesthetically pleasing, beautiful image to look at. Learning how to apply it, and where, will bring about huge improvements in the overall beauty of what you already have.
