The most important aspect to attaining a successful outcome in any aesthetic treatment or program is the initial consultation. This FREE meeting, whether it be online or in-person, is a crucial first step towards ensuring the outcome you are expecting is the outcome you receive. The consultation sometimes takes longer than the procedure itself because so many aspects need to be covered such as medical history, prior cosmetic treatments, goals and expectations, proper product choice, correct dosages, after-care instructions, etc. Any detail that is missed, or any miscommunication that occurs during the initial consultation can result in unhappy patients. This BLOG will describe the process of a successful consultation, and exactly what you should expect to ensure you receive the best possible aesthetic result.
Prior to a consultation you should already have done some research and have a list of questions regarding the procedure at hand. This will expedite the appointment and allow for a quicker connection and understanding between you and the provider. Here are some examples of what to consider asking:
- what to expect prior to, during and after treatment
- treatment cost
- is there any down-time for recovery
- which product to use and where
- how long will the treatment last
- will there be any pain
- do I have any medical conditions that are contraindicated to the procedure
During the consultation the provider should gather a complete medical history including any prior cosmetic treatments and surgeries, any medications, allergies, etc to ensure the patients health is appropriate for treatment. Once medical clearance is decided upon, a thorough and detailed discussion about the patients goals and expectations should be had. (Bringing pictures to show the provider of what a desired outcome is will not be beneficial because every person has different and unique anatomy, skin and structure. Angelina Jolie’s lips, while beautiful on her, are not realistic on almost anyone else.) The provider will educate the patient about what the outcome will look like on his/her face or body that will be unique to them.
After an understanding of what the patients wants and can realistically achieve has been made, the right product and dosage will be decided upon. For example, there are many different lip fillers, and each one will yield a different result such as volumization vs smoothing lines, etc. Some fillers hold much more water that will create volume and hydration, whereas others are for shaping and contouring. Also, the correct dosage should be determined that will be appropriate for the desired outcome.
After the patient deems medically permissible for treatment and has a realistic understanding of the outcome, and product and dosage have been determined, the treatment plan will be created. This plan is both for the current appointment and future appointments. Typically more than 1 appointment is necessary to achieve the desired result. Depending on the treatment goal, future appointments will need to be scheduled for touch-ups, or if 1 session isn’t adequate for the desired outcome. Medical consents, permissions and other legal forms should be completed before treatment is to begin.
While all aesthetic consultations should cover the above mentioned aspects, The Golden Method Consultation at South Florida Face and Body goes a few extra steps in regards to considerations for the treatment plan. 2 additional important aspects are involved with South Florida Face and Body aesthetic consultations.
First, just like an artist has to decide which surface is appropriate to use for their work, skincare is addressed to maximize the aesthetic outcome. A beautiful smooth skin “canvas” will always enhance any cosmetic procedure, therefore a discussion about proper skincare and skin treatments is necessary to give the best possible result. There will be ongoing discussion and education during each appointment about the right products and skincare treatments that are most beneficial to each patient’s skin type and goals.
Additionally, golden ratio calipers are used to determine precise measurements for any filler procedure. Whether it be lip height, cheek contour, chin augmentation, etc., specific measurements to guide injection volume and technique will always yield a more beautiful and harmonious outcome compared to selling procedures by the syringe.
